The size #3.5 or 3-1/2 reed is a thicker reed. A thicker reed offers a full rich tone, however requires more emboucure strength to play with. As a player progresses in playing skill the reed size usually progresses upward just the same. i.e. A less experienced player will want to use a thinner reed such as a #2.5, a 3rd year student a #3 or #3.5.
